Has it disappeared into the unknown? I haven’t heard or read anything regarding anymore vehicles with the IPL moniker. It went over with the renaming of the G37 in 14', but since then has disappeared. Is Infiniti going to pursue this or just leave it alone? It wouldn’t make a difference really seeing as the G37 IPL was nothing to write home about

Infiniti is not quite known for their naming prowess.

I haven’t heard anything about it either. I’m assuming that either it will come along later or they’re giving up since it was such a lackluster option package.

It remains as the Q60 IPL Convertible (Folding hard top) for some reason.

I wonder if Infiniti gave up, considering that Sebastian quit and went to Ferrari?

Weird. But CP though. 62k for what amounts to a little suspension tuning, some special wheels and seats. There’s so many other options at this price its not even funny.

They probably have or there would have been some kind of update to, you know, actually make it comparable to AMG, S, M, etc.

Two color choices for the exterior, two interior, no packages available, no options either.

I think the intent was for IPL to be Nismo, however they wanted to start it off with an M-Sport, Audi S-line, F-sport, etc. style of upgrade and move up gradually. Problem was that since performance went crazy. An Audi S model is meh now because RS models exist. V models are pretty crazy and this left Infiniti in a place where IPL didn’t do anything. Samething happened to Lexus. RC-F kind of pairs with ATS-V and RS5, but bump up a class to GS-F and the pairing is better with a CTS V-Sport than a CTS V or S7 rather than RS7. Luxury Performance arms don’t work if you don’t have enough components to compete past the compact segment. A 400hp large Nissan sedan is a Nismo while a 400hp large Infiniti sedan is just a top trim in that class.

So back to the drawing board. They can do an IPL Q50 and Q60 since they’re small and a 430hp is plenty. However they’ll need a powertrain above that to really cement a performance brand above Nismo.

The problem with Infiniti was the IPL had hardly any more horse power so it was more like the 335i to the 228i than the M3 to the 328i. Not nearly enough to justify the premium in price.

It’s a silly name anyways. They need something catchier. Plus,, people in Indianapolis will think it has some connecting with Indianapolis Power & Light, which is also abbreviated IPL.

It’s been effectively dead for the last couple of years now. The new Q50 Red Sport is the closest you’ll get to an Infinit performance model. The Q50 Eau Rouge was supposed to be the true successor, but that is also dead, because Infinit’s executives hate fun.

The Eau Rouge pretty much made everyone forget about IPL. ON top of that though, they need to put some resources into updating their entire lineup. Most of their vehicles are pretty dated by now with the exception of course being the new Q60 coupe and the QX30 crosshatch.
